A bit of ultrasound trivia: When babies' eyes are open, the lenses show up as big, dark circles. Since the forehead, nose, and mouth are clearly present in this face shot, minus any big, dark eye circles, the logical conclusion offered by the doctor is thus: She's asleep! Not surprising after all the wiggling she does at other times. :)

A bit of ultrasound trivia: When babies' eyes are open, the lenses show up as big, dark circles.
