About Lydia's Baby Blessing

Our family has a tradition of making audio recordings of baby blessings and then transcribing them. In years to come, Lydia may notice that her blessing is not quite as long as the ones of her older sister and brothers. This note is to let her know why: Because God knew exactly how much memory was left on our camera and didn't want Lydia to miss anything. A bold assertion, yes, but consider the circumstances: We decided to use our camera's video capability to record the baby blessing rather than our old tape recorder. We'd done the same for the previous baby blessing, but that baby blessing was done when the camera had plenty of memory space. In Lydia's case, Mom had been slow to delete photos for awhile and spent the minutes before the blessing frantically deleting photos to free up space. The blessing time came, Mom gave Dad the camera, and the blessing began. Sooner than usual, Dad finished the blessing. When Dad came back with the camera, it was flashing "memory full." There was no telling how much of the blessing had been recorded until the file was transferred to a PC. Mom was surprised and relieved to hear that the last word on the recording was "Amen;" everything had been recorded! So, my Lydia, remember this if you ever are feeling unloved or less loved than someone else in the family: God loved (and still loves) you enough to send you a blessing just the right size for what could be recorded. And your parents love you, too.

  1. It was a very nice visit. Since that time, another journey was made to the area. Lydia added two more states to her travel. She went to Indiana and Kentucky in April of 2011.
